Huffin’ and puffin’…
That’s exactly what high rep kettlebell work will do to you…
It’s true, kettlebells aren’t just for strength…
In kettlebell competitions, known as ‘Girevoy Sport events,’ athletes work up to hundreds or reps in the clean and snatch. And world records for max reps in these exercises are at the thousand rep mark.
If you thought that was impressive, check this out… Bud Jeffries has done up to 3000 swings in about an hour and a half… Three Thousand!
And in all of the examples above, I’m talking about non stop reps……
So, when I say KBs build more than strength, I wasn’t kidding. Done for high reps, they skyrocket your cardio…
Once you find your ‘sweet spot,’ a weight that’s heavy enough to challenge you strength wise, but light enough to allow you to do extended sets, the rhythmic nature of the movement forces you to coordinate your breath. ..
And since it’s an explosive movement, your berthing becomes very sharp at the point of ‘explosion.’ It then relaxes as the bell goes up.
Because of the tremendous abdominal contraction and coordinated breathing; it provides a very high level of conditioning.
This way of breathing and effort develops a type of conditioning that’s tailor made for combat athletes, especially fighters.
You might not be interested in ‘knuckling up.’ But one thing’s for sure, training like a fighter will get you into butt kicking shape.
And getting into shape isn’t only great for your health, fat loss, and energy levels, it also helps you develop more muscle mass and limit strength.
Like many things in life, this is something you need to experience ‘in person.’
Pick what you find to be a moderately heavy bell. From there, work your way up to doing 200 swings in 5 minutes…
You will be huffin’ and puffin’ at the end of this…maybe even within the first few swings…
If you’re having a hard time with this, don’t give up. As long as you’re not going too heavy, you’re body will adapt, and do so relatively quickly…
Don’t try to kill yourself. Break into it intelligently, and bit by bit you’ll find your total reps climbing…
It’s also important to divide the reps evenly between your left and right hand. Otherwise you could end up looking like deformed mutant.
And that’s not good, unless you have plans on making a career of being a monster in cheesy sci-fi flicks and B-grade horror movies. (hey, somebody’s got to play those parts, and who am I to judge?)
Yes, high rep kettlebell work can turn you into the endurance equivalent of a gazelle…
It’ll also toughen up the most important ‘muscle’ you have, the one between your ears…
If you haven”t started using them, what are you waiting for?
