What does strength and power look like?

According to Hollywood and the rest of the mainstream media, it’s a 6 pack and set of ‘guns.’

Those are impressive muscles, especially when they’re highly developed. But that isn’t what strength look like.

Real strength and power is something different. It’s found in the muscles that are ignored by almost all of your average trainees. And no wonder. We’re constantly shown images of the muscles above. And it’s too bad, because it’s misleading.

You have people spending hours pumping away their biceps, and doing thousands of crunches. And in the end, all they end up with; is ‘looking like Tarzan , and playing like Jane.’

If you want to know what the power and strength looks like, listen to how Bill Star describes John Phillip

‘he had the build of an athlete who used his muscles: thick chest, wide back and tree-trunk legs.’

Is there any mention of abs? How about big arms? Nope. Not that they’re unimportant. It’s just that they’re not the source of real strength and power.

Instead he mentions thick thighs, a wide back, and a thick chest, which in my opinion means a large rib cage as well as thick pecs.

And how do you develop these muscles? With lots of heavy squatting, pulls, and presses. The bread and butter of any productive routine, be it for strength and power, or bodybuilding purposes.

Focus on these movements, and you won’t only come across the part, but you’ll be as strong as you look too.
