Has you’re training become part of your usual ‘routine’?
You know, one of those things you do with the grey matter on auto pilot?
That happens to a lot of people without them even noticing it. And who can blame them? With a gazillion things on the go, it’s not hard to lose focus and intensity in the gym.
That’s why you need a goal.
Not just any goal, but something that really gets you going just at the thought of it. And it can be more than one. You can have it all, you just need to be wiling to work for it.
So goals help. But this ain’t no infomercial. There’s no ‘set it and forget it’ here. Not if you want to get the most from those goals.
You need to work with your goals. Kinda help them along. And you do that by setting aside some time every so often to sit down, and take a closer look at things.
Let’s say you have a 10 week training cycle, a good time would be at the end of it, just before switching to a new routine. See how you’ve progressed. Make notes of the good, the bad, and the fugly. Then adjust your training, and keep moving towards your goals.
This really doesn’t take a lot of time, especially if you’re keeping a training journal. And anyone serious about their training keeps a journal
Make notes of any new PRs. Always strive to best them until you’ve reached your final goal.
Once you’ve accomplished one goal, be sure to replace it with another one, ASAP! Otherwise, you risk going off track.
In addition to performance, you can track changes in muscle mass, body fat percentage, and measurements.
There’s a ton of things you can set goals for. And whether it’s aesthetic, performance, or both, having goals helps maintain your focus.
And keeping track of your progress, and doing so in a way that keeps it ‘top of mind,’ is one of the best things you can do to keep your training productive and enjoyable.
