‘I can’t do it…’
‘It’s too hard…’
‘It’s too much…’
If those comments led your mind into the gutter, kick it outta there…that’s not where this is going…
Those ambiguous remarks are what many have to say about working out.
Even guys with years of experience…seriously…It tends to happens when I explain what they have to do to take things to the ‘next level.’
This probably sounds really weird, but hear me out…
To the guy who has never trained before, stepping into the gym can be like climbing Everest.
To the guy who’s already training, it’s normal, just another day at the office.
Now let’s turn the tables.
Let’s say that the guy who’s already training follows a regular training routine.
You know, a few sets of thus, a few sets of that. A couple 20 minute sessions on the treadmill or bike every week. You’re average routine…
Now ask that guy to work on doubling his strength on deads, squats, and presses…
Have him work on building up the ability to do hundreds of reps in bodyweight exercises or kettlebell swings…
And let’s have him start doing some farmers walks and stone carries for distance…
Just so we’re clear, I’m not saying have him instantly go to using twice as much weight, or doing hundreds of pushups.
I’m saying let’s switch up his training and have him gradually work up to it.
Now…
What do you think the average gym rat’s going to say?
In all likelihood he’ll say the same thing the Workout Virgin said…
‘I can’t do it…’
‘It’s too hard…’
‘It’s too much…’
Why do I bring this up?
Because if you can manage to get the person who has never trained to start slowly, eventually he’ll get used to it.
Soon he won’t find it so ‘hard.’
Overtime he’ll become like your average lifter, and just think of training as something he ‘just does.’
Same goes for the lifter who kicks his training into overdrive.
It may seem like a mountain at first…
But by approaching it intelligently and placing one foot in front of the other, he’ll reach the summit.
And even though he’s still challenging himself and training hard, he’ll get used to putting forth that kind of effort.
Soon it’ll just be another day at the gym.
So if you ever find yourself ‘gulping’ at the thought of a new challenge, or any of the things I mention, keep the above in mind….
YOU CAN DO IT…
Don’t let the fear hold you back. You just need to ‘Train Smart’ by breaking into it intelligently…
Before you know it, you’ll be light years ahead of where you were before…
Train Smart, Train Hard
