My name is Raymond Toulany, and I have been working out in some form or another since I was 12. I have done everything from calisthenics, martial arts, to weight lifting and strong man type training, not to mention numerous sports.

But for some reason the gains in size were excruciatingly slow.

We Don't Eat Numbers
Then one day I finally had enough,
I figured I was training right, I stuck to the basic movements and really trained hard. I also got plenty of rest. I decided the problem was my nutrition plan. So I went to the book store and bought almost every book about nutrition on the self.
I then went to a nutritionist to check out my diet.
Unfortunately, I was only given the amount of grams of carbs, proteins and fats to eat.
Like most people, telling me to eat x amount of calories, and y grams of protein, fat and carbs means nothing.
I felt like yelling at the top of my lungs that WE EAT FOOD NOT NUMBERS!
I wanted to be given a menu of meals that met my nutritional needs. Something that told me what, when and how much to eat.
After listening to the nutritionist tear up my diet, I took a few tips to heart.
Between the nutritionist’s tips and the mountain of books I bought, I eventually made a plan I thought best suited my goal of adding muscle.
Soon I was growing faster than the proverbial weed.
However, shortly there after, it stopped.
Back at square one!
I read some more, then made a few adjustments, and the scale started to tip in my favor again.
I kept doing this, blinded by the memory of little gains. I also started experimenting with different amounts and ratios of fat, carbs and protein.
Before I knew it, I ended up where most people looking to add muscle without understanding nutrition end up -- F-A-T and getting fatter by the meal.
I realized that I had became overzealous with my ambition of being "massive". I wanted to be built like a brick shit house, not a pile of its contents!
The lack of clarity in my goal, and lack of understanding how nutrition affects my body made me fat and covered up all my hard work.
I now refined my goal to becoming as strong as possible, and to stay reasonably lean in the process.
Back to the drawing board, but by this point I had some hard earned experience. I made a few minor changes, and before I knew it my strength was increasing, I was adding muscle mass, and I was getting leaner. All of this started to happen before I even had a chance to implement my cardio regiment.
Be In Control
My father loves explaining things with analogies, parables, proverbs and the like. One in particular he repeated was the following:
"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach a man how to fish, and he will eat for a lifetime."
That’s exactly what I experienced once I “cracked the code.” I was able to control my weight, be it gains in muscular size or fat loss.
I learned it wasn't necessarily the "diet" that was the secret to losing weight or packing on muscle, but the actual implementation, the "System".
